Based on the success of Cohort 1, the decision was made to launch a
second group. Cohort 2 began in the summer of 2006 and operates
separately from the first group. For their issue they identified
Teen Dating Violence as an important concern facing teens that was not
being adequately addressed.
Still early in their planning process, the students decided that a
media campaign would be an important component of making a difference.
Dating violence is an issue that exists in the shadows - teens don't talk
about it with adults. Through a media campaign, the students hope that
students, parents and community leaders will begin to talk about it more.
In addition, the students are currently reviewing curricula that
address healthy relationships and dating violence. They are also
considering working with local partners to create their own curriculum
that could be made available to middle and/or high school students.
